Why we dose by the pound

Key takeaways

  • Every formula uses the same three weight bands for dogs.
  • Cats take half a tablet of Plus formulas — never a dog dose.
  • The score line is there so half doses are accurate. Use it.

Three bands, one chart

Under 30 lb: half a tablet daily. From 30 to 75 lb: one tablet. Over 75 lb: one and a half. The same chart is printed on every jar, so moving between formulas never means relearning the dose.

A 30-tablet jar therefore lasts about 60 days for a small dog, 30 days for a medium dog and 20 days for a large one.

Why weight, not age or breed

Body weight is the most reliable everyday proxy for how much support a pet needs. A ten-pound terrier and a ninety-pound shepherd shouldn’t get the same thing, even if they’re the same age.

Same chart, every jar. No relearning the dose.

Splitting a tablet properly

Press down on both sides of the score line with your thumbs and the tablet snaps cleanly. Keep the other half in the jar with the lid closed and give it the next day.

When to ask your vet to adjust

Our chart is a starting point. Your veterinarian may suggest a different amount for a pet that’s very lean, overweight, elderly or managing a health condition. Follow their advice over ours.

This article is for general education and isn’t veterinary advice. Every pet is different — talk to your veterinarian before starting a supplement, especially if your pet is pregnant, on medication or managing a health condition.
